"We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don't really get solved. They come together and they fall apart again. It's just like that. The healing change comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, room for relief, for misery, for joy."

- Pema Chodron

For many people a counselling room is not their preferred place to think and talk. Alternative Directions offers a variety of places utilising outside walk and talk sessions through to home visits to provide new ways of understanding problematic thoughts and situations.

"It starts with a step" aims to introduce and expand on ideas based around Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) with a particular emphasis on
-
mindful practice
-
unhooking from unhelpful thoughts
-
acting on one's own values and
-
making empowered flexible choices

We work with the notion of doing specific therapeutic work so that you build a tool kit to draw on your own thoughts and ideas that can be practised and understood during sessions, and revisited during your own time. This process supports self-empowered learning and understanding that is founded on your own beliefs and what you can or need to do to move forward to bring about long term change.

The M-Passport is a personal journal, resource and reference for you to utilise when required.

Like a real life passport, it can be pulled out when required to move through borders (personal barriers) to get to a new place.
